December 5th in the Deelfabriek
Thursday, December 5, 2024 you were welcome for another edition of Design Drinks & Talks. Our inspiration and networking gathering for creatives and everyone interested! And this time in partnership with the new Creativ'Up project.
We gathered in the Deelfabriek, the old fire station in Kortrijk that was redeveloped into a meeting place where civic initiatives, the neighborhood and the city find each other.
With talks by:
- Pierre Pauze is a transdisciplinary artist exploring the changes brought about by new technologies, particularly through new ways of representation and communication.
- Yufei Gao is a multidisciplinary designer and currently Designer in Residence in Kortrijk. She explores how design can serve as a powerful tool to raise awareness around societal challenges.
- Thomas Israel's transdisciplinary approach to digital art revolves around social and humanistic themes, body, time and subconsciousness.
September 19th under the Parrot Pavilion (Begijnhofpark)
Ditmaal kwamen we op donderdag 19 september 2024 om 19u00 samen onder het Parrot Pavilion in het Begijnhofpark Kortrijk, dat tijdens de Triënnale Kortrijk ingezet werd als unieke ontmoetingsplaats.
Met talks door:
- de Parrot Pavilion bedenkers, kunstenaar Nico Dockx & architecte Caroline Voet. Het paviljoen was ontwikkeld als een participatief concept; een ontmoetingsplek waar artiest en publiek in dialoog gingen.
- Toon Sintobin, founder van Movie FX, een special effects studio uit Kortrijk. Zij voorzien de mist, sneeuw, vuurspuwende draken en geweervuur voor films, theater en reclame.
- Sibran Sampers van Copper & Light, een unieke artistieke coöperatie werkzaam over heel Vlaanderen én een van de WONDER Creativity Festival participanten.
March 28th at PHENOMENA
For this edition we visited ELDERS, a collective that organizes exhibitions of contemporary art in Kortrijk in special locations. Among other things, they wanted to offer young talents at the beginning of their career a platform.
Their brand new exhibition is called PHENOMENA and ran from 03.03.2024 to 07.04.2024 in a former school building that will soon be repurposed (Boerderijstraat 69A, 8500 Kortrijk).
On stage:
- Mark Venter - Creative Lead & Brand Experience Strategist at Once (lecture in English)
- Joachim Froment - art director at Futurewave (lecture in English)
- Xavier Mary - artist PHENOMENA (lecture in English)
Tour of the exhibition by Elders happened after the lectures.
January 18th at LinkLab Creative Offices
At the beginning of December 2023, Link Lab's Kortrijk team received the prestigious WORKSPACE (small) award at the World Architecture Festival for their own office on the Veemarkt in Kortrijk!
The choice of location for this edition was therefore quickly made.
We once again provided a varied line-up of speakers, all recently nominated for great prizes!
On stage:
-Link Lab itself, with Simon Adriaenssens from Stay Studio
-Kortrijk fashion designer Charbel Abou Zeidan from Octogony, nominated for the Belgian Fashion Awards 2023 in the Emerging Talent category
-Alyssa Lanssiers, alumnus UGent Campus Kortrijk and currently a product design engineering lead at Loop Earplugs, Scale-up of the Year 2023 and winner of the Henry van de Velde Awards 2024 Consumer category.
September 28th at Atelier Nooitgedacht
We looked ahead to WONDER Creativity Festival with some designers there!
Multidisciplinary designer Timon Mattelaer on Belgian Design Pavilion, a curated collective exhibition showing the essence of Belgian design and how it relates to his own design practice.
Social psychologist and designer Bram Boris Van Acker on A hearth full of changes and how the scientific basis for his behavioural change designs can provide an interesting perspective.
Product designer and artist Yani Vandenbranden on Cabaret voltaire anno 23, a collective with different designers from different contexts looking for answers and a broader understanding of her own work.
