De wereld "rebooten": een UNESCO-debat over creatieve steden over de rol van design.
The UNESCO Creative Cities of Design network, which unites 40 cities around the world, is organising an open virtual discussion on "The power of design in response to the global crisis and rebooting the world". In a discussion broadcast from the Kaunas - European Capital of Culture 2022 office, on 14 July, the cities will share current issues and COVID-19-inspired design practices and experiences in the field of emergencies that inspire people around the world.
We are confronted with design every day without even thinking about it: at home, at work, in public spaces. Design shapes and creates the perception of what the city and city life should be like. Form and content influence everything: economics, politics and culture. The experience of quarantine with endless restrictions has triggered the need for urgent and creative solutions that not only help us adapt to this new reality, but also make us feel healthier and happier. In the virtual world, the connection with the community, regardless of its size, has become an essential criterion in design: in a world hit by a pandemic, we need to rethink our priorities. What is the meaning and function of design today? How does a discipline often associated with luxury, style or beauty help communities around the world to meet today's challenges, adapt to changing circumstances and ensure security and connections between people? What is the role of design and designers in "rebooting" the world?
During the virtual session, creators and designers will present the most inspiring emergency solutions from different cities around the world, and UNESCO's Creative Cities of Design coordinators and initiators will discuss the role of design in restoring the world. "We want to discover the resilient mindset of design cities and learn how to tackle Covid-19 around the world. This will be a great inspiration and learning session," said Stijn Debaillie, deputy coordinator of UNESCO's Creative Cities of Design sub-network.
The international session will present a variety of design solutions in different cities around the world, from protective masks and hoods, graphic design solutions for elderly care visitors to ways of mobilising architects to address new urban challenges.
The discussion "The Power of Design in Response to the Global Crisis and Rebooting the World" on the Zoom platform will be broadcast live from Kaunas on Tuesday 14 July at 14:00 local time (14:00 EEST (Eastern European Summer Time)).
