Open Design Lab - co-creation, learning and making without borders

BUDA::lab and Mesh vzw invite refugees, asylum seekers and undocumented migrants to the Open Design Lab: an 11-week free course around open design, technology and creative practices.

From idea to impact in the Open Design Lab

The programme provides space for people residing in Belgium but often excluded from formal education. Together, we explore how design can act as a social, technological and artistic tool to share stories, develop ideas and strengthen communities.

In the Open Design Lab, co-creation is central. Participants learn to work with digital and physical tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, open hardware (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), and open software. We also delve into web development, graphic design and creative coding. Under the guidance of a multidisciplinary team of makers, artists and technicians, you will work step by step on your own project.

Practical

  • Duration: 11 weeks
  • Language: English (basic knowledge is sufficient)
  • Cost: free participation, including lunch and support for travel expenses
  • Participants: max. 15

Open Call

Are you curious, creative and want to develop new skills? Would you like to collaborate with other creators and be part of an inspiring community? Send us your background information and motivation via: 👉 opendesigncourse.be/open-design-lab

Building an open future together

The Open Design Lab is more than a course: it is a place where ideas, knowledge and stories come together. Discover how technology and creativity can open doors, for yourself and others.

The results of the Open Design Lab will be shown to the general public at the WONDER Festival from 16 October.
