Hack The Material Pavilion
The Hack The Material project aims to subject an existing product to experimentation and reinterpretation in order to arrive at innovative and fresh design ideas. Within this project, a collaboration was initiated between the company Paneltim and designer Victor Ledure, resulting in an impressive architectural pavilion, presented at the Verlaagde Leieboorden during the WONDER Festival in Kortrijk.
At the start of the project, the properties of Paneltim Base material were investigated and the company's objectives were then mapped out. Based on these insights, an integrated design was developed by Victor Ledure. Victor is a designer who works at the intersection of architecture, interior design and furniture design.
Paneltim produces lightweight, waterproof and structurally sound plastic sheet material. The panels are versatile and combine structural strength with low weight. These properties make the material particularly suitable for experimental design. The company also wants to explore new markets with its products, such as architecture, interior design, furniture and swimming pools, in both private and public applications.
To make this goal tangible, a representative element was selected for each of these sectors, such as the wall, the roof, the terrace, the bench, the flower box and the swimming pool. These different elements were brought together in a single design by Victor Ledure: a pavilion in which all applications enter into dialogue with each other.
The projects of Brazilian architect Luis Barragán were the main source of inspiration for this design. His characteristic way of working with pure volumes, geometric clarity and a strong spatial experience has been translated into a contemporary pavilion. Clear, powerful surfaces are carefully linked together, creating a sculptural whole that not only impresses from a distance, but also reveals its layered and refined nature when viewed up close.
The use of colour has been deliberately kept monotonous in order to draw attention to the shapes and the interplay between light and shadow. These subdued tones have been applied in both the spray plaster finish and the tiling, creating visual unity. The result is a pavilion that radiates serenity and at the same time makes a powerful architectural statement.
