The KIOSK is getting Kortrijk ready for the Flanders Technology & Innovation Festival

In September, Hangar K will be using their KIOSK presentation to get passers-by excited about the Flanders Technology & Innovation Festival in Kortrijk. From 27 October to 8 November, they will be joining forces with WONDER Festival to transform the city into a vibrant hub for technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity.

Update yourself

The installation at the KIOSK offers visitors a first glimpse of FTI Kortrijk’s diverse programme. During the festival, young and old alike can not only discover technology, but also experience it for themselves. You’ll emerge as an updated version of yourself, because these ready-to-use innovations have a tangible impact on our daily lives. From interactive technology experiences and artificial intelligence to gaming, robotics and innovative applications in healthcare: FTI aims to make technology tangible, accessible and inspiring for a wide audience.

The KIOSK presentation and the complete event design for Flanders Technology & Innovation Kortrijk are being developed by Giovanni Maes of creative studio Stugio.

Interactive exhibition

An interactive exhibition is currently running at the former Reepkaai hospital campus. As a visitor, you’ll challenge AI, programme robots, discover the future of healthcare, play your way through the history of gaming, and much more. This evocative venue is also one of the highlights of the WONDER trail.

The two festivals are therefore working together to engage with the education sector. Pupils in Years 5 and 6, as well as those in secondary, higher and part-time education, are invited to bring their classes along to experience, in an accessible and interactive way, what technology and design make possible today and in the future: from AI, health technology, product design and STEM robotics to circular and regenerative design, drones, gaming and more.

The Flanders Technology & Innovation Expo in Kortrijk is made possible in part by Hangar K’s partners: Howest, KU Leuven Kulak, Ghent University Campus Kortrijk, VIVES University of Applied Sciences, EdTech Station, Flanders Game Hub, the City of Kortrijk and WONDER Festival.

Events

If you’re an entrepreneur, you need to be at The Next Step on Tuesday 27 October. From 12 noon, you can join in for free (upon registration) for Tech Talks, Demo Tours and co-working in Hangar K. In the evening, The Next Step at Départ brings together entrepreneurs who may not be at the same stage, but who are all grappling with the same question: what’s the next step?

The first speakers have now been announced: Gunther Ghysels, founder of Get Driven, WERKR and Tinrate, and Sebastien Vandendriessche, CEO and co-founder of Spotable. More names will follow shortly. Tickets for the evening programme are now on sale.

Design professionals are also welcome at Depart that day for a Product Design Meetup, headlined by Aloka Muddukrishna, Head of UI/UX at Polestar.

On Wednesday evening, students with an entrepreneurial spirit are expected to attend the Start at K Kick-off. You may recognise keynote speaker Mohsin Abbas from *De Slimste Mens ter Wereld* or his sold-out theatre shows. He has built his career by creating opportunities for himself. Today, he inspires entrepreneurs and organisations with his story about daring to take risks, taking action and persevering. Mohsin and the other speakers will share inspiring personal accounts, honest insights and practical tips that students can put into practice both during and after the Kick-off.

On Thursday and Friday, UNWRAP will give you the chance to discover the latest trends and technologies in gaming, AI, media and digital entertainment. Explore the bustling exhibition floor at UNWRAP Connect, follow specialist conference tracks and meet the people behind the latest developments in games, AI, animation, music tech and interactive media. Whether you want to network, learn, showcase your work or seek new business opportunities, UNWRAP brings the sector together under one roof.

Kortrijk in a different light

As darkness falls, Hangar K, the former hospital on the Reepkaai and the Belfry come to life with impressive projections. The façades serve as a canvas for a spectacular blend of light, technology and creativity. And it’s not just about watching: visitors can interact with the projections themselves. This free evening experience is created by the Digital Design & Development (Devine) programme at Howest.
