Forum Culturele Hoofdstad van Europa 2020
Invitation to the virtual European Capital of Culture Forum 2020
Culture in the time of corona
The pandemic that brought the world to a standstill has not only encouraged the cultural sector to rethink its mission and to look for alternative ways of creating and consuming art. But it has also underlined the essential necessity of culture and art for the public.
The third 'European Capital of Culture Forum' organised by 'Kaunas - European Capital of Culture 2022' will take place from 20 to 22 May 2020. The Forum will be entirely online and should invite everyone in the cultural sector to discuss the meaning of culture. European artists, policy makers and private and public sectors are invited to exchange views on the challenges facing the cultural sector, as well as on the changes, innovations in crisis conditions and the future of culture in the post-pandemic world.
The programme of the Forum will consist of presentations by prominent cultural representatives. Forum participants will be invited to join the speakers in four virtual discussion sessions and ask them questions.
20/05: 'The role of culture defeating the crisis'.
21/05: In partnership with Creative Europe Desk Lithuania, 'Local or international? Shifting priorities in public funding for culture'.
22/05: 'Culture in the post-pandemic future. Retooling'.
All discussions of the Forum will be broadcast live. The Forum will be held in English, with the exception of the session "Culture in the Measures of Management of the Economic Crisis", which will be held in Lithuanian.
