Kato Herbots is a product designer with a fascination for the relationship between people, materials and context. Materials and storytelling form the core of her work. She uses design to critically examine current worldviews and explore alternative future scenarios. Through her practice, she breaks down prejudices and creates new perspectives. Kato is currently one of our three Designers in Residence Kortrijk. Her project Residents of Solar Space just won a Henry van de Velde Award 2026 in the Design Research category. The project explores how design can contribute to a healthier, more conscious approach to the sun, without sunscreen or dietary supplements, but through alternative materials and objects for a healthy and sustainable life. She is now also in the running for the Public Gold Award. You can vote HERE.

Maarten De Laet is a mixed media visual artist. The figures he depicts, whether painted or three-dimensional, are fictional characters that originate from his surroundings, imagination or memories. Through his work, he attempts to capture a fictional world in which he finds comfort and invites viewers to escape with him to this romanticised realm. Maarten participated in the WONDER Festival 2025.

maf architecten is a passionate design collective based in Kortrijk. It is a complementary team that works enthusiastically on a wide range of projects: from thorough renovations and new-build homes to public buildings and collective housing. They believe that architecture can mean more than just fulfilling a building programme; it can contribute to a living environment that inspires, connects and tells a story. Every design they realise not only serves the present, but also contributes to a meaningful future – a space that spans generations and continues to invite new forms of interaction and experience. One of their realisations is currently nominated for the Kortrijk Architecture Prize 2025. The project is a terraced house on the outskirts of Kortrijk that has been radically redesigned with a focus on an open, green and peaceful living experience. View and vote HERE.

Lea Collet (based in Aulnay-sous-Bois, with strong ties to London) works in moving image, performance, installation and research, exploring botany, emotion, territory, transmission and the coexistence of natural and artificial intelligences.

A graduate of Le Fresnoy, DIU Artec+ and the Slade, her work has shown internationally (e.g. Le MAC Lyon, Camden Arts Centre, Manifesta 13); she is digital artist-in-residence at the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco and was a finalist for the 2024 Sigg Art Prize on AI.

Le jeudi soir 11 décembre, nous vous invitons au Polestar Space Kortrijk pour une nouvelle édition de notre événement de réseautage et d'inspiration Design Drinks & Talks. La parole sera donnée au designer produit Kato Herbots (lauréat du prix Henry van de Velde 2026 et Designer in Residence Kortrijk 2025), à l'artiste plasticien Maarten Delaet, qui travaille avec différents médias, et au collectif de designers maf architecten (nominé pour le prix d'architecture Kortrijk 2025). Le quatrième intervenant sera annoncé prochainement ! L'événement s'inscrit dans le cadre du projet ON/ART.

Kato Herbots est une designer produit fascinée par la relation entre l'homme, la matière et le contexte. Les matériaux et la narration sont au cœur de son travail. Maarten De Laet est un artiste plasticien qui utilise différents médias. Les personnages qu'il représente, qu'ils soient peints ou sculptés en trois dimensions, sont des personnages fictifs issus de son environnement, de son imagination ou de ses souvenirs. À travers son travail, il tente de capturer un monde fictif dans lequel il trouve du réconfort et invite les spectateurs à s'évader avec lui dans ce royaume romancé. Maarten a participé au WONDER Festival 2025.

maf architecten est un collectif de designers passionnés basé à Courtrai. Cette équipe complémentaire travaille avec beaucoup d'enthousiasme sur un large éventail de projets : des rénovations en profondeur et des constructions neuves aux bâtiments publics et aux formes d'habitat collectif. Ils sont convaincus que l'architecture peut être bien plus qu'un simple programme de construction ; elle peut contribuer à créer un cadre de vie qui inspire, rassemble et raconte une histoire. Chaque projet qu'ils réalisent ne sert pas seulement le présent, mais contribue également à un avenir significatif, un espace qui transcende les générations et continue d'inviter à de nouvelles formes d'interaction et d'expérience. L'une de leurs réalisations est actuellement nominée pour le Prix d'architecture de Courtrai 2025. Il s'agit d'une maison mitoyenne située à la périphérie de Courtrai, qui a été radicalement repensée pour offrir une expérience de vie ouverte, verte et paisible. Découvrez-la et votez ICI.
