DRK matches talent, internationally!

Last week, we were guests at the opening of the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale for a special reason.

Six months back, Jūratė Tutlytė, our colleague from UNESCO Creative City of Design Kaunas, told us about the vision of the Lithuanian pavilion. Under the title ‘Archi-tree-tecture’, they would work around the need to integrate trees into our architecture. She was looking for an international collaboration with young talent to add substance to their concept, we found that link with Howest Devine.

Researchers Giliam Ganzevles and Bert De Roo (HOGENT - Futures through Design) took this opportunity with both hands. In September, they will both present their recently released research and publication ‘Decentering Design’ in Venice, with workshops with international students. Giliam and Bert invite designers to design more holistically.

That we are proud of the UNESCO Creative Cities title as a design city speaks for itself. But more importantly, we actively use this international network to give our young talents a boost. In this way, we not only put Kortrijk on the world map, but also create opportunities for the next generation to grow internationally. In a world where international cooperation is more relevant than ever, this is invaluable.
