Irene Raeymaekers
My name is Irene Raeymaekers, I am 25 years old and I graduated with a master's degree in Textile Design from KASK in Ghent. 'It proliferates around us' is an important phrase in my research, and it is based on this phrase that I design my textiles. Proliferation is a dynamic structure that, as it grows, becomes increasingly connected to its environment. The longer it interacts with its environment, the more unity is created. In my work, proliferation has started to proliferate on its own. Deformations arise from pulling and pushing within the textile, with different threads and textures supporting the shape. My different shapes are not chosen directly; the predetermined shapes are deformed through the felting process. The structures and textures that arise as a result reflect my view of what proliferating can be. I consider what emerges through my felting process to be snapshots of proliferation, because proliferation does not stop; it continues to proliferate.
