Design Residency 2026
The third edition of the Earthrise – Design for a Living Planet Residency is back.
The 2026 edition will explore clay-based materials – ceramics, earthenware and their derivatives – as cultural, environmental and design resources for the present.
Samenwerking Circolo del Design en Designregio Kortrijk
In najaar 2026 worden geselecteerde projecten uit de Kortrijks residentie ‘Metamorphosis’ van de ontwerpers Lou Cruard, Kato Herbots en Uğis Albiņš gepresenteerd naast de resultaten van de residentie van Circolo tijdens de Turin Design Biennial en Contemporary Art Week (oktober 2026 – januari 2027). Voor de residentie van Turijn kunnen geïnteresseerde ontwerpers zich nu kandidaat stellen.
In 2027 zullen Circolo del Design en Designregio Kortrijk dan een gezamenlijk residentieprogramma ontwikkelen, waarbij ze samen het onderzoeksthema bepalen, gezamenlijk ontwerpers selecteren en residenten ontvangen in zowel Kortrijk als Turijn. De resultaten zullen gepresenteerd worden tijdens WONDER 2027 en bij Circolo del Design tijdens de Contemporary Art Week 2027.
OPEN CALL
The project approaches clay beyond the functional object, considering it as narrative, spatial and critical matter. Attention shifts from products to states of transformation, from outcomes to processes, and from innovative or traditional forms to the imaginaries they activate.
What can clay still communicate when freed from function and returned to a space of inquiry?
The Residency
The selected designer will collaborate with local design and artisan communities, companies, researchers and transdisciplinary experts active across Turin and the wider Piedmont area.
The residency combines site visits, exchanges and hands-on experimentation with materials. Both the final output and the designer’s logbook will be presented as part of the Earthrise 26 exhibition and showcased during international design events.
Eligibility Criteria
- Under 35
- Applicants must demonstrate an international dimension within their practice through research, professional experience, collaborations, cultural exchange, mobility, or engagement with transnational networks and contexts in Europe.
- Well-structured project planning, clear goals
- Thematic relevance, aligned with the objectives of Earthrise 2026
- Experimental and/or innovative approach

Voorwaarden voor deelname
- Jonger dan 35 jaar.
- Kandidaten moeten binnen hun praktijk een internationale dimensie kunnen aantonen via onderzoek, professionele ervaring, samenwerkingen, culturele uitwisseling, mobiliteit of betrokkenheid bij transnationale netwerken en Europese contexten.
- Een goed uitgewerkt projectplan met duidelijke doelstellingen.
- Inhoudelijke aansluiting bij de doelstellingen van Earthrise 2026.
- Een experimentele en/of innovatieve aanpak.

Lise nodigt ieder jaar veelbelovende internationale ontwerpers uit in Kortrijk voor boeiende residentietrajecten. Zij staat verder in voor het luik onderzoek en experiment bij de organisatie.
